Yoshua Bengio
Yoshua is a Full Professor at Université de Montréal, Co-President and Scientific Director of LawZero, and Founder and Scientific Advisor of Mila, the Quebec AI Institute. He is recognised worldwide as a pioneer of deep learning, receiving the 2018 A.M. Turing Award with Geoffrey Hinton and Yann LeCun for their foundational work on deep neural networks. He chairs the International AI Safety Report, the first comprehensive international review of advanced AI capabilities and risks published in January 2025 and backed by 30 countries. In 2025 he founded LawZero, a nonprofit research organisation developing non-agentic AI systems that prioritise safety by design. He is the most cited computer scientist globally, a Fellow of both the Royal Society of London and Canada, Knight of the Legion of Honour of France, Officer of the Order of Canada, and a Member of the UN's Scientific Advisory Board for Independent Advice on Breakthroughs in Science and Technology.
